What is pro-life libertarianism?
Pro-life libertarianism combines the principles of individual liberty, self-ownership, and the non-aggression principle with a commitment to protecting life from conception. Australian Libertarians for Life believe that unborn children have inherent rights, consistent with opposing the initiation of violence on peaceful people. Our values guide our advocacy for policies that uphold both freedom and life (see Our Values).
Do I need to be a member of the Libertarian Party to support Australian Libertarians for Life?
No, you do not need to be a member of the Libertarian Party. While our founders are Libertarian Party members, our organisation is independent and welcomes supporters, members, and pledge signers from any political background who share our values (see Our Values).
Do I need to be Christian to support Australian Libertarians for Life?
No, you do not need to be Christian. We warmly welcome Christians, but our organisation is open to all who share our pro-life libertarian values. One of our co-founders is Christian, while the other is not, reflecting our diverse coalition.
What is the difference between the Candidate Pledge and the Party Room Pledge?
The Candidate Pledge is a firm commitment to vote in parliament in line with our values, opposing taxation increases, liberty reductions, and expanded abortion access, while protecting unborn children. The Party Room Pledge is a more flexible commitment for supporters who advocate these values within their party's internal discussions and votes, but may need to follow party lines in parliament due to binding caucuses.
What is your stance on abortion in cases of rape?
Rape is a heinous crime, and we acknowledge the profound trauma it causes. While rape-related abortions are a small fraction of cases in Australia, our focus remains on protecting unborn children, who are innocent of their father's actions. We believe the non-aggression principle applies to all life from conception.
What about ectopic pregnancies or cases where the mother's life is at serious risk?
In rare cases, medical procedures are necessary to save a mother's life during pregnancy, which may tragically result in the loss of the child. We do not consider such procedures, like those addressing ectopic pregnancies, to be abortions or against our values. Our commitment is to protect life while prioritising medical necessity to save mothers.
How can I support Australian Libertarians for Life?
You can support our mission by signing the Candidate Pledge or Party Room Pledge, joining our organisation, or spreading awareness of our values. Whether you are a candidate, supporter, or advocate, your involvement helps promote liberty and life (see Join Us or Contact Us).
